St John the Baptist Cathedral
Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, the Gothic cathedral is the town's most important building. Inside are medieval vault paintings and a 17th-century organ.
Day trips & tips
What we recommend to our guests: in Kamień Pomorski just across the bridge, along the Baltic coast and in Szczecin.
Just across the bridge
Just a few minutes away: the old town with its cathedral, market square and town hall, the marina and a few places we especially love.
Culture
Built between the 12th and 15th centuries, the Gothic cathedral is the town's most important building. Inside are medieval vault paintings and a 17th-century organ.
Music
Every summer since 1964, the cathedral has hosted organ and chamber music concerts, usually from late June to late August, always on Friday evenings. A special evening beneath Gothic vaults.
Viewpoint
Two parts of the medieval town fortifications from the 14th century. In the tower, the Stone Museum shows minerals, fossils and meteorites, and a viewing terrace at the top looks out over the town.
By the water
The yacht harbour, with around 240 berths, sits at the end of Bałtycka Street. A lovely place for a waterside stroll, especially in the evening when the boats come back in.
On the water Our tip
Motorboats you can drive without a boating licence, for four to six people, after a short briefing. Plus pedal boats and SUP boards, with life jackets included. Best to book ahead in summer. A great way to see the island from the water.
Food and drink Our tip
A family business founded by a fisherman who came to Kamień in the 1980s. Fish restaurant and smokehouse with its own shop, open all year. They fry fish from the Baltic and the lagoon, such as cod, perch and pike-perch. Don't miss the pickled salmon (łosoś kiszony), certified as a local product, and the homemade paprykarz. Ulica Wilków Morskich 3.

On the coast
Wide sandy beaches, cliffs and a national park. Most places are between 20 minutes and an hour away by car.
Beach
The nearest Baltic beaches, with wide, pale sand. In Dziwnów the drawbridge over the Dziwna opens to let boats through, a little spectacle between lagoon and sea.
Day trip
All that remains of the medieval church is a section of wall right on the cliff edge. Over the centuries, the sea has claimed the rest.
With children
The little railway runs about 40 kilometres from Gryfice via Trzęsacz, Rewal and Niechorze to Pogorzelica. The short stretch from Trzęsacz to Pogorzelica takes just over half an hour, ideal with children.
Viewpoint
A lighthouse you can climb, with sweeping views of the coast and the sea. The narrow-gauge railway has its own stop here: Niechorze Latarnia.
Nature
A national park since 1960: cliffs such as Gosań and Kawcza Góra, the Turquoise Lake (Jezioro Turkusowe) and a European bison enclosure. Lovely trails, even for half a day.
Beach
The well-known seaside resort with its pier and long promenade, and a starting point for hikes in the national park.
Culture
In the early Middle Ages, Wolin was an important trading centre. The Centre of Slavs and Vikings brings this to life in a reconstructed village, and a big festival takes place here every summer.
Day trip
For a full day out: the port town with Poland's tallest lighthouse, a wide sandy beach and a promenade that runs all the way to the German border at Ahlbeck.
For a city day
The nearest city is about 1 h 15 min away. Good for a day of culture, architecture and restaurants, even when it rains.
Viewpoint
The monumental terrace above the Oder is the city's best-known view, looking out over the river and the port. The main building houses, among others, the National Museum.
Culture
The Renaissance castle on the edge of the old town is now a cultural centre with exhibitions and concerts.
Music
The gleaming white building won the EU Mies van der Rohe Award for architecture in 2015. A concert here is worth it, for the music and for the hall itself.
Culture
A museum beneath a walkable square that tells the city's 20th-century story. It was named World Building of the Year at the 2016 World Architecture Festival.
Nature
One of the largest cemeteries in Europe, laid out like a park with old trees and avenues. A quiet place for a long walk.
Culture
Guided tours of a large Second World War air-raid shelter near the main railway station. Fascinating, even on a rainy day.
City stroll
The riverside boulevards are made for strolling, with cafés and views across to Łasztownia island. In summer, sightseeing boats leave from here.
